The campaign, to be launched in September, will galvanise the efforts of the EU Timber Regulation to help achieve a sustainable market for forest products.

WWF’s Living Forests analysis predicts that global demand for timber will triple by 2050. The WWF said it wanted to ensure the EU timber markets were not contributing to the problems of global deforestation and the campaign was to drive the changes needed to ensure that all timber cames from sustainable sources.

The preview was held at the Penguin Random House offices in The Strand and was aimed at encouraging businesses to help transform the market to a responsible forest trade.

Guests included many from the top UK companies and leading timber and forest companies. The main guest was Dragon’s Den judge and WWF ambassador Deborah Meaden.

WWF CEO David Nussbaum said the new campaign was to try to stop illegal timber coming into the EU. He said the EUTR was trying to promote the right direction of travel, but it needed to go further and to see that it was enforced.
