WWF has started an international awareness campaign aimed at highlighting the need for Europe’s wood giants to help stop irresponsible and illegal timber harvesting.

The conservation group is encouraging people to lobby companies such as Bauhaus AG, a leading European DIY chain with a big market influence in eastern Europe.

WWF says it is seeking a dialogue with Bauhaus to convince the company to use its market power and show positive leadership. This includes only buying wood products from well-managed and legal sources, influencing its suppliers and implementing steps to help eliminate bad practices in regions from which it buys timber.
