First-year achievements of the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) have been reported at the Institute of Wastes Management conference.

WRAP’s Achievements Report, launched at the Torbay conference, details its work so far to stimulate markets in recycled resources, including the £3.6m funding for research and development projects, some of which are in the timber sector.

It also highlights the business development service which attempts to increase investment in the recycling sector and help smaller companies in this field to grow.

Vic Cocker, chairman of WRAP, said: “Increasing recycling is a national imperative and, by creating markets for recycled materials, we need to demonstrate that it can also make economic sense.”
