The US Wood Promotion Network is backing the promotion of green building practices across the country.

The formation of the Green Building Initiative (GBI) supports the residential green building standard being released by the US National Association of Home Builders in the autumn. It comprises a number of companies, associations, government bodies and NGOs.

The GBI will be working with Home Builder Associations (HBAs) in key markets to develop local programmes based on the NAHB standard. Work is already under way in Houston, Cleveland, St Louis and Kansas City, and will include a total of 10 markets by the end of the year.

The GBI will provide builder support through its soon-to-be-launched website, seminars and marketing tools designed for use by local HBAs. Part of the WPN’s role will be to help recruit other industries involved in residential building as the GBI expands.
