The world’s first pine diesel plant has opened in Sweden.

The SKr250m SunPine plant in Pitea is designed to produce 100,000 m³ of crude tall diesel annually from renewable wood by-products of the wood pulp processing industry.

The diesel is refined into a high quality diesel fuel for diesel vehicles at a second refinery in Gothenburg.

“It’s a great day for us who invested in SunPine and who regard the forest as an essential part of the climate shift, as we see huge commercial potential for the end product,” said SunPine founder and owner Lars Stigsson.
