The Timber Recycling Information Centre (TRIC) is staging a series of workshops around the UK to educate timber-using industries about reducing wood waste and finding alternative uses.
The first – at Power Systems, 10 Fishwives Causeway, Edinburgh, on April 9 – will ask delegates to consider the amount of waste they generate and its cost.
Statistics suggest that more than 50 million tonnes of waste material is generated each year in England and Wales by construction and demolition, and up to 25% is timber. TRIC believes companies are ignoring their obligations under increasingly stringent environmental legislation.
Stan Terry, of the Timber Recycling Information Centre, said: ‘Throwing away wood is throwing away money. By optimising waste management, companies can add at least 1% and as much as 4.5% to their bottom line.’
Additional workshops are to be held in London on April 16 and Manchester on April 23.
