Local children from Norfolk Community School and one of the area’s elderly residents planted an alder tree to mark the start of the £5.2m scheme – one of the UK’s largest regeneration projects.
The project is designed to provide environmentally-sound, affordable housing. All external walls, except end walls, will be constructed from timber, while the outside will be clad in western red cedar.
The energy-efficiency of the homes and the use of renewable energy resources mean that fuel bills are expected to be only £100, compared with £500-600 per year. The properties will be sold at 70% of market price.
