An EU-funded woodfuel project in south Yorkshire has said it will report in the autumn on a possible supply chain model for biomass fuel.

South Yorkshire Forest Partnership is the lead organisation in the AFO (Activating Private Forest Owners to Increase Forest Fuel) in the region where 24 boilers have been installed since 2010. The project has identified 15,879ha of woodland and 493 owners.

A spokesperson said woodland owners and woodfuel suppliers had been involved in workshops and training events. “The next stage is to work with woodland owners, consultants and contractors to explore which supply chain model or models are most appropriate in the local circumstances.”
