The accord, which was launched in July with 11 signatories, aims to increase collaboration and co-operation across the sector.

“Having an initiative representing and supported by the whole industry supply chain will give us added weight in terms of representation across a range of areas,” said Timber Trade Federation chief executive John White, one of the original signatories.

“We are already working together on PR and publicity through Wood for Good and in addressing the biomass issue, and there will be other areas around which we can coalesce.”

“We welcome the move to co-ordinate the efforts of industry groups and are confident it will support our efforts to drive up standards and promote our messages,” said WWA chairman Sean Parnaby.

The chairs and presidents of the accord signatories will meet in the autumn to discuss its future activities. Mr White said that there were still other bodies that could join the initiative.
