Three events focusing on engineered wood will be held at the Building Centre in the latest Wood Talks series.
“Live/work/shop”, sponsored by Finnforest, takes place on September 29 and will look at the way in which wood is being featured structurally and aesthetically in major retail, office and commercial mixed use schemes in the UK and mainland Europe.
Speakers will include Jan Guell of Rogers Stirk Harbour Architects who will present the iconic Bullring in Barcelona for which Finnforest provided a timber and glass domed roof structure.
The second seminar on October 15 will see the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) deliver “need to know” information about its recently launched Stair Accreditation Scheme and is seen as an opportunity for BWF members to showcase their qualities.
The focus on engineered wood will continue on October 22, with B&K Structures covering hybrid structures, Case studies will include Scunthorpe Sports Academy – a group of five linked geodesic pods which combine a steel spine with timber spokes and infill.
Tesco’s chief architect Martin Young will illustrate the future for engineered wood in the retail sector at both the Finnforest and B&K events.
Wood Talks are presented in association with Wood for Good and The Timber Trade Federation.
