Wood. for good’s promotional campaign is being rolled out to builders to help them make better use of timber.

The first three A5-size publications cover timber in construction, wood flooring and plywood. The brochures, which represent a “substantial” investment, are being distributed to wood. for good member companies, builders merchants and timber importers, plus respondents to the campaign’s adverts.

Wood. for good project manager Tony Traynor said: “Timber has always been a fundamental building material and our new brochures serve to remind people of the cost and performance benefits of wood, which are often considerably superior to more modern, synthetic, products.”

The construction guide explains timber’s physical properties and how these are best exploited in structural applications. It covers traditional joinery practice and introduces I-beams and room-in-the-roof prefabricated roof trusses.

Advice on wood flooring includes detailing of the main types of floors and guidance on selection and installation.

The plywood brochure looks at the different grades and use of plywood and explains its structural use and compliance with BS 5268-2 2002. It also introduces exterior-grade ply which is suitable for cladding, opening a wider range of design possibilities for domestic and commercial properties.

Further guides will focus on timber used in joinery, fitted furniture and lofts, plus use of wood in the self-build sector.
