The US-based Wood Promotion Network (WPN) says it experienced “overwhelming success” at the 2004 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.

WPN, which represents more than two-thirds of North American wood production, said its show surveys confirmed that its presence at the event continues to raise awareness of wood among builders, architects and other key stakeholders.

About 60% of visitors surveyed said the January 13-16 show left them with a better overall impression of wood, while 82% said it made them feel timber was a superior all-around building product.

A total of 85% of people polled at the organisation’s stand agreed with the WPN/Dr Patrick Moore Sensible Environmentalist campaign, which says using wood is good for the environment. About 92% of visitors surveyed agreed that “wood products are an environmentally responsible choice when it comes to choosing building products”.

To attract attention to its stand, WPN suspended a 5,900lb Ford truck from a giant glulam swing, designed to demonstrate the strength and durability of wood.
