The market for wood/laminate floorcoverings was worth £374m in 2006, according to the latest Wood/Laminate Floorcoverings Market 2007 report.
Published by AMA Research, the report predicts that the market will grow by 4-5% over the next four years and could be worth as much as £450m by 2010.
Since an overall decline in 2005, driven by a fall in the use of laminates resulting from a downturn in the DIY sector, the report notes that there has been steady growth, with solid/engineered wood products seeing “strong growth”.
“The solid/engineered sector continued to experience strong growth in 2006,” said AMA Research.
“There have been further changes in the product mix, as the solid/engineered wood sector continues to perform and indications are they should continue to take market share from laminates.”
AMA Research added that a key influence on the future of the market is the housing sector, with first-time buyers and those trading up all having an impact.
