The Wood Awards 2011 will launch with a special presentation showcasing previous winners at the Building Centre on Thursday March 24.

The event is sponsored by the Carpenters Company and Rooff Ltd and launches the call for entries for the annual competition for use of timber in construction, interiors and furniture.

It is being jointly hosted by The Wood Awards and the organisers of the Wood Talks, the series of seminars and presentations on latest applications of timber in construction held at the Building Centre.

Chaired by Hugh Pearman, RIBA Journal editor and architectural critic of The Sunday Times, it will comprise presentations on two Wood Awards Gold prize winners, the Savill Building in Windsor Great Park and the Weald and Downland Museum.

Speakers will be structural engineer Professor Richard Harris of the University of Bath, and representatives of Edward Cullinan Architects, Glenn Howells Architects and the Green Oak Carpentry Company.

The audience will include architects, engineers, designers, contractors, building owners and representatives of the joinery, timber and timber construction sectors.
