A record number of entries has been submitted to the Wood Awards 2003.
The 208 projects to be judged by a panel of architects, engineers and craftsmen include livery halls, libraries and a lifeboat station. Entrants include joinery companies, builders, designers and architects.
The Timber Trade Federation‘s head of public affairs Mark O’Brien, who is chairman of the award sponsors, attributed the excellent response to “the high level of promotion achieved by the call for entries in key architectural and building industry titles”.
Entries are divided into four major categories – commercial, private, structural and conservation/restoration, with an overall Gold Award winner and a discretionary Award for Innovation.
A shortlist of 20 projects will now be drawn up and published at the end of June, with viewing available on the awards website www.woodawards.com. Judging will take place over the summer and winners will be announced on October 15 at Carpenters’ Hall.
The 18 sponsors of the awards, which recognise outstanding achievement in wood design and installation, include the American Hardwood Export Council, the British Woodworking Federation, the TTF, wood. for good and English Hertitage.
