The timber industry is missing out on a wealth of potential according to Rob Simpson, managing director of SCA Timber UK.
He believes the trade should make it clearer to young businesswomen that equal opportunities exist for career development in a multi-faceted, £2.4bn sector.
He said: “From about 140 candidates who have been through our training programmes in the past two years, only 10 have been women.”
Mr Simpson added: “Other industries are much better at making their case and we are consequently losing out on a pool of potentially excellent recruits.”
