Wolseley is supporting customers and suppliers in the supply of legally-sourced timber with its own risk assessment system.

The web-based InSite system involves timber suppliers uploading all information about products they supply to Wolseley to measure compliance with its global timber policy.

Independent data management and assessment specialist Track Record supports suppliers in delivering the information and verifies the evidence to risk assess each item. This, Wolseley said, enabled high-risk products to be eliminated from its supply chain.

Jermain Cheetham, Wolseley’s timber and sustainable product policy manager, said InSite demonstrated a commitment to a process of due diligence in the supply of timber as required by The Timber Trade Federation.

He also said it was likely that legislation would be passed within the next two years stipulating all EU timber imports must be from legal sources.
