The largest forest management group to achieve Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification to date has been certified in Wisconsin.

The record-breaking group making up 2.1 million acres is Wisconsin department of natural resources’ “Managed Forest Law” (MFL), which includes more than 40,000 different privately-owned forest properties.

MFL group members were offered the choice of opting out of certification but only 2% chose to do so.

Accredited certification body the Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood programme certified the group according to FSC’s standards and will conduct annual audits.
