This week’s high winds have caused substantial damage to Forestry Commission forests in central Scotland.
A Forestry Commission spokesperson told TTJ that officials had surveyed several areas of major windblow and the damage was more substantial than first thought.
“We have no idea yet as to what volume has been brought down but have arranged for an aerial survey this weekend to fully assess what we have to deal with,” said the spokesperson.
The aerial survey will help gauge damage to areas which cannot be accessed easily on the ground.
The commission is working with contractors to deal with major clearance works in Carron Valley, Blairadam, Devilla, Heathland, Barhill, Lennox, Kilpatrick blocks and Selm Muir.
The commission said evidence from other areas of Scotland so far showed only limited and localised windblow, with nothing likely to cause forestry operational problems.
