Tall casement and shallow arched head softwood windows have been installed at a retirement home in Poundbury, the village founded by the Prince of Wales.

Spalding-based George Barnsdale Ltd, a member of the British Woodworking Federation, factory finished the windows using a Sadolin micro-porous woodstain system specified in a neutral green colour.

Toughened glass was used in the units at Castle View Nursing and Residential Home, while full draught stripping helps achieve a high thermal performance.

George Barnsdale also supplied half a dozen mock French doorsets, including an opening top light, and screens.

Alan Portsmouth, a member of building contractor Colten Development’s architectural team, said: “As the property is within Poundbury – part of Prince Charles’ Architecture for Britain scheme – we were obliged to utilise timber windows.”
