Six enormous Douglas fir whisky vats – each capable of holding up to 38,000 litres – are to be converted into houses at the Findhorn Foundation’s ‘eco-village’ on the Moray Firth near Forres.

Previously serving as washbacks at the Balblair distillery in Edderton near the Dornoch Firth, the 40-year-old vats are currently drying out at Findhorn while house design and planning work takes place. The foundation built five vat-based houses in 1986 which have become popular tourist attractions.
