The Saddleworth-based company, whose roots can be traced back to 1876, entered administration on October 18 after suffering cash flow difficulties.

Some 18 staff who were already working out redundancy notices were informed they would no longer be needed. Only 26 now remain with the company.

Administrators Kroll Corporate Advisory & Restructuring Group are continuing to trade Shaws while reviewing options for the business.

“We appreciate these are uncertain times for employees and thank them for their support,” said Kroll’s David Whitehouse.

A contact in the pallet sector said he was sorry Shaws had gone into administration but described pallet manufacturing as a “very tough market” at the moment.
