Willamette Europe is now officially part of the Weyerhaeuser group.

The long-running takeover saga between the two US-based forest products giants played out one of its final acts last week when Weyerhaeuser acquired approximately 97% of Willamette’s outstanding shares.

Staff at Willamette Europe in the UK now answer the telephone ‘Willamette Europe, a Weyerhaeuser company’ and there will be a three-month review period during which Willamette Europe will be operated as a subsidiary.

Geoff Rhodes, sales and marketing director of Willamette Europe, said customers have been informed of the change.

He expects an official name change but said nothing had yet been decided. He views the takeover ‘positively’ and describes both firms as ‘hugely committed’ forest product companies.
