Weyerhaueser has sold its Slave Lake, Alberta OSB mill to Tolko Industries Ltd.

The US company was paid US$56m for the plant by Tolko, which is based in Vernon, British Columbia.

Weyerhaueser bought the mill 12 years ago and says it currently has a capacity of 240 million ft2.

The company said the move did not mean it was considering pulling out of Alberta, where it has two other OSB plants, two sawmills, a pulp mill and other operations.

“We remain commited to maintaining a strong presence within the forest industry in Alberta, but we believe that the Slave Lake mill offers strategic benefits to Tolko that we have chosen not to pursue,” said William Corbin of Weyerhaeuser‘s wood products division.
