Columbia Forest Products is to buy Weyerhaeuser‘s Ontario-based Nipigon Multiply hardwood plywood underlayment operation for an undisclosed sum.
The Mutiply brand, a three-ply aspen quarter-inch plywood used for vinyl, ceramic and laminate flooring, has the second-largest share of the North American underlayment market after lauan.
Weyerhaeuser’s building materials division will remain as an agent for Columbia in selling and distributing the product to North American customers.
Columbia, the largest manufacturer of hardwood plywood and hardwood veneer in North America, intends to keep Nipigon’s present staffing and production levels following acquisition.
