The company’s response follows allegations by a Canadian First Nations group and the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) that Quadrant is using laminated timber products made from wood in the disputed Whiskey Jack Forest. Quadrant’s houses carry a three-star “Built Green” rating from the Master Builders Association.

Weyerhaeuser said the logs in question are bought from Abitibi-Consolidated and are harvested in a sustainable way.

The First Nations Grassy Narrows group has been in dispute with Abitibi since 2002, when logging activities approached the Grassy Narrows village.

RAN has called on Weyerhaeuser and Abitibi to adopt new logging standards under the Forest Stewardship Council.
