The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation has donated US$100,000 to help areas in Washington and Oregon recover from storms in December 2007.
The storms are estimated to have downed more than 10,000 acres in Oregon alone, with Douglas fir stands bearing the brunt of the damage.
Relief organisations in five counties are to receive a share of the money, including the American Red Cross operating in the Lewis, Clatsop and Tillamook counties; United Way, also working in Lewis County; and the Coastal Community Action Programme undertaking relief activities in the Gravis Harbor and Pacific counties.
“It is important for us to offer help to communities affected by the storm,” said Karen Johnson, president of the foundation.
“Weyerhaeuser operates in all of these communities and our thoughts are wth everyone who is struggling to recover.”
Fallen trees contributed to US$5m worth of damage in Oregon’s state parks alone, according to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
