Weyerhaeuser has announced the permanent closure of its iLevel lumber mill near Taylor, Louisiana.

The closure, effective immediately, affects 39 employees and is due to the faltering housing market.

“This was a very difficult decision impacting employees who have performed well,” said Tom Gideon, Weyerhaeuser’s executive vice-president of forest products.

“Unfortunately, the current extraordinary weak market conditions require that we take decisive action.”

The company continues to employ 924 staff at five other Louisiana manufacturing facilities and other sites.
