The company was helped by higher log prices and volumes during the quarter, while softwood lumber duties were also reduced.

Western said it had completed restructuring following the acquisition of Cascadia Forest Products in May.

This will result in the loss of 110 jobs by early 2007, with one phase of redundancies already made.

Western has an annual allowable cut of 7.7 million m3, with a lumber capacity exceeding 1.5 billion board feet from nine sawmills.
