West Fraser Timber will begin construction on a new C$105m sawmill in British Columbia this month.

The company, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2005, is building the mill in Quesnel to improve productivity and maximise recovery from beetle-killed timber, while improving emissions quality.

The three-line facility, which replaces an existing mill, will have an annual capacity of 500 million board feet. Construction is due to take 15 months.

West Fraser will also add 16,000ft2 of office space to its administrative building to accommodate about 35 staff transferring from the company’s Weldwood acquisition in Vancouver.

The company manufactures lumber, wood chips, LVL, MDF, plywood and other forest products.
