SCA Timber Supply says it is achieving 50% extra moulding production throughout following the installation of Weinig technology to replace equipment damaged by a fire a year ago.
The fire at the company’s Stoke-on-Trent premises last December meant SCA was faced with having to replace machinery including a Weinig Hydromat moulder.
New equipment included a Weinig Powermat 2000 moulder with PowerCom memory and organisation software and a new moulding system – HSK PowerLock tooking, a Rondamat 960 profile grinder, OptiControl Powercom tool measuring system and a Jointer pre-setting stand.
The nine-spindle moulder, which can run up to 100m/min, has CNC controls on the top two spindles, two left spindles and a feed beam, with other spindles positioned by the PowerCom system for fast set-up.
SCA said two moulders were previously required for large batch production and short runs – now all the work is completed by the Powermat on its own.
“It boosts our moulding capability and efficiency, enabling us to be more versatile in responding to customer needs,” said SCA Timber Supply operations director Neil Emsley.
SCA Welshpool operations director Jonathan Bower confirmed the specification for the Powermat during a vist with Weinig product advisor Joe Baker. SCA Welshpool has two Waco high-speed lines at its facility.
Products machined on the equipment include standard and bespoke moulded profiles, components for timber window manufacture and timber for domestic consumers and local builders.
