The German company marked its centenary in 2005 and the then Chancellor Gerhard Schröder was guest of honour at the celebrations at its Tauberbischofsheim headquarters.
Weinig manufactures machinery at four locations across Germany and has plants in Switzerland, Sweden and Yantai in China. The group also includes other well-known timber technology brands, such as Grecon, Dimter, Raimann, and Waco.
The company exports to every timber processing country in the world, but according to Chris Osborne, managing director of Michael Weinig (UK) Ltd, “the UK remains a very important and key market for the Weinig Group”
“It is a very long-established marketplace for us, in fact we’ve had a UK subsidiary for over 20 years, and we’ve installed and commissioned more than 4020 machines,” he said. “The UK also supports the latest technology, machinery developments and innovations.”
This close relationship with the UK timber industry is one of the reasons Weinig decided to become TTJ Awards Gold Sponsor.
“The TTJ Awards are also about excellence in service, which has also been key to Weinig’s success,” said Mr Osborne. “The whole Group is very proud to be associated with such a prestigious UK timber industry event and it’s a particular honour to be the first machinery manufacturer to be Gold Sponsor.”
TTJ editor Mike Jeffree said: “It’s fantastic to have another big name backing the TTJ Gold Award following UCM Timber’s tremendous support in recent years. Everyone knows Weinig’s great reputation and they’ll be working with us to make the tenth anniversary TTJ Awards a really special event.”
The TTJ Awards take place at The Savoy in London on September 14.
