Yorkshire-based wood components manufacturer Weatherald Wood is now producing full assembly flat pack furniture.
The shift follows a recent investment in plant and machinery, as well as the securing of a contract with Symphony to produce a range of 30 different items for the company’s new Embrace bedroom furniture range. Previously, Weatherald was making only components in the kitchen and bathroom sectors.
Roy Fishwick, managing director, said increasing competition from Far East and Scandinavian imports had influenced the company’s decision to go into full assembly furniture. Products for the new Symphony range includes display units, cornices, pelmets and countertops.
Weatherald has an £80,000 new storage facility with 10,000ft2 of space at its Askrigg site to store the more bulky full assembly flat pack items. Panel processing equipment costing up to £40,000 has also recently been purchased.
