Swedish forestry company Sveaskog is to supply sawmill Wallnäs with greater amounts of rough timber under a deal designed to guarantee supplies for a new saw line.

The family-owned sawmill invested £1.3m in a saw to cut special dimensions to meet customer demand for odd sizes. The company said the line can cut up to 200 dimensions rather than the dozen or so it said is offered by most competitor sawmills.

The company switched to specialising in sawing rough lumber, mostly spruce, five years ago. Its products are used in laminated wood and for construction timber and are sold primarily in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands..

Wallnäs CEO Bo Pinto said: “We see the market for our products increasing. To achieve our growth we need the supply of inputs and it is up to Sveaskog to obtain hefty loads of rough timber.”
