The Zone is an extension of the apprentice competition traditionally featured at Woodmex in the past.

This year the latest furniture creations from students at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and Leeds University will be on show, with staff on hand to give advice on the training courses available.

“An ongoing challenge in our industry is finding skilled personnel,” said John Bodden-Smith, exhibition director.

He said the purpose of the Zone was to help people identify training opportunities, not only for young people new to the industry but also on-going training for improving skills and keeping up to date with new methods and developments.

Advice on grants for training will be available and visitors will also be able to learn about health and safety issues.

The apprentice competition to create furniture components will still have an important role in the Learning Zone, and eight apprentices have so far signed up to take part.
