Local government in Vietnam’s central coastal province of Binh Dinh is helping to lure investment in its growing wood processing industry.

There are now 60 businesses equipped with machinery sufficiently advanced to manufacture to international standards. Their main products are outdoor and indoor wood products, and handicrafts for the EU, China, Japan and US markets.

Exports have been targeted to rise from US$73m last year to US$130m in 2005, and cash is being offered for trade fairs, quality control and environmental assistance.

The government recently decided to develop the local economic zone with an urban area and deep water sea port.
