“The Vicaima Group is showing manufacturers in Portugal and throughout Europe that the door manufacturing industry is poised to lead the way in sustainable sourcing,” said Jamie Lawrence, European forestry division manager for the Rainforest Alliance.

Arlindo Costa Leite, chief executive officer of the Vicaima Group, said the company is a pioneer in its sector in achieving FSC chain of custody certification.

“We had to discover the best way to guarantee an effective control of our supply chain’” he explained. “We made considerable changes regarding the wood mix we buy. We are now buying more wood from Europe and the United States and less from Africa.”

Vicaima has worked closely with the Tropical Forest Trust to tackle the complex issues of assessing its supply chain and evaluating its timber procurement policies from tropical countries.
