The strength-to-weight ratio of Boise Cascade’s (LVL) Versalam beams was a key factor in their selection for an important education project in the north of England.
The 5.5m-tall glue-laminated sections were supplied by Boise to Howarth’s Huddersfield branch to form part of a £200,000 timber frame solution for the construction of Kentmere Primary School in Rochdale.
The product is normally used for floor beams but at Kentmere it was employed as part of the wall construction.
Each of the Versalam columns measures 89x280mm and performs a dual role – to help withstand wind shear and to transfer roof loadings directly onto the foundations.
