Ventrolla Ltd has repaired and upgraded 42 timber sash windows as part of the conversion of a Grade II listed Manchester market hall into luxury apartments.

The Harrogate-based company’s regional arm, Ventrolla Lancashire carried out the contract which included the renovation of six original curved casement windows in the Smithfield Market building.

Work involved removing and reglazing damaged glass, repairing rotten timber, refitting sash cords and easing sashes. Ventrolla’s perimeter sealing system was installed to eliminate draughts and rattles and improve window performance.

Richard Ellis, who owns and manages Ventrolla Lancashire, said: “It is a privilege to be involved in a project of this nature, which requires all our typical skills in improving the performance of original windows to optimise comfort, while retaining the architectural integrity of an important historic building.”

The project, part of the £7.5m Northern Quarter redevelopment, will provide 87 flats in the market building and two newbuild blocks.
