Window manufacturer Velux is to hold its International Award 2006 for Students of Architecture at Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum.

The competition has so far attracted more than 500 entries from 72 countries, including Canada, China and Thailand.

The event is part of Velux’s continuous effort to establish close relations with building professionals, including architects and educational institutions.

Velux says the awards, called “Light of tomorrow”, aim to strengthen the role of daylight in building design. Students are encouraged to work with daylight, not just as a design component or external factor, but as a central architectural issue.

The presentation ceremony will take place at the Guggenheim on October 23, the day after the start of the Velux 5 Oceans race in Bilbao.
