Open web timber joists have been installed by a team of 26 carpenters to support the London Olympic Velodrome track.

The 356 trusses will support 56km of Siberian pine, specially selected for its stability and long lengths.

The Olympic Delivery Authority is aiming for the track to be the world’s fastest by tailoring the track geometry and setting the temperature within the venue to create ideal conditions.

“Seeing the track beginning to take shape gives us a first look at where we hope world records will be broken in 2012 and where a new generation of cyclists will be able to take to their bikes for many years to come,” said ODA chief David Higgins.
