German sawmiller I van Roje & Sohn recently played host to the prime minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Kurt Beck.
The former chairman of the Social Democratic Party and candidate for the chancellorship has an interest in renewable energy sources and visited the mill to view its pellet production facilities.
“He was very surprised and impressed by the exemplary production process where even the waste is integrated,” said a van Roje spokesperson. “The sawdust goes to the pellet facility or is used as fuel to heat the kilns.”
Van roje processes about 500,000m³ of spruce and Douglas fir and produces around 50,000 tonnes of pellets per year.
