Universal Wood Products (UWP) has pressed the green light on its newly installed Weinig production line.

The Romford-based manufacturer of primed MDF mouldings says the new line, which features an HSK power lock tooling Powermat 400 moulder and the latest dust extraction to energy systems, will help meet customer demand for just-in-time products.

“Our main customer base of independent and UK timber merchant groups often require us to meet specific architect requirements and usually on very short lead times,” said UWP sales director Martin Cossington. “This new line will give us that further scope to meet such demands.”

He also said the company would be boosting production of flame retardant MDF mouldings.

UWP is now manufacturing on two production lines, with the new Powermat expected to enable production of extra wide skirtings, windowboard and the growing demand for made-to-order profiles.

“This major investment prepares us for the inevitable upturn in the primed MDF moulding market,” added Mr Cossington.
