The US has come out on top in the latest World Trade Organisation (WTO) panel ruling on the softwood lumber dispute.

The ruling, focusing on the anti-dumping aspect of duties imposed by the US on Canadian softwood imports, declared that the US acted within its rights when it imposed the levy.

However, the WTO panel said the US should review how it calculated the price of imports and the amount of duty it can apply. Anti-dumping duties averaged 9.67% when they were first imposed in 2001, before being cut to 8.38%.
