The US commerce department has adjusted its anti-dumping duties on Canadian softwood imports in response to a trade body ruling.
The average duty rate has been lowered slightly from 8.43% to 8.38% following the North American Free Trade Agreement panel’s ruling in July which found the commerce department set its levies incorrectly.
Bigger adjustments have been made to individual companies, including Tembec Incorporated which will see its rate go down from 10.21% to 7.04%, while Abitibi-Consolidated’s levy is to fall from 12.44% to 11.60%.
Slocan Forest Products Ltd’s payments will inrease from 7.71% to 10.49% and Weyerhaeuser‘s rate will go up from 12.39% to 12.73%.
The commerce department has set a 30-day public consultation period before finalising the changes. It also plans to review countervailing duties, which average 18.79%.
