Jewson, UPM Tilhill and Hortech Ltd have been praised by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for their work to improve health and safety in the workplace.

Some 1,500 companies were awarded honours in the annual RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards, with the construction industry the biggest winner claiming 600 honours.

Jewson’s operations in Scotland, Wales, the south-west, south-east and north all earned silver awards.

UPM Tilhill won a gold award through the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector, with landscape maintenance firm Hortech were named overall winner in the category. It offers a range of arboriculture services, including forestry clearance, tree felling and removal, wood chipping, tree surveys and inspection, tree planting schemes and training programmes.
