UPM is testing the new Finnish FSC standard in its forests.
The move follows the recent approval of the FSC standard by the Finnish FSC Association, paving the way for it to be applied in Finland once FSC International gives its approval, expected at the start of 2011.
“With this testing the company wants to fully assess the costs and functionality of the indicators of the new Finnish FSC standard,” said UPM.
The company expects the results of its testing to be ready by the end of 2010 and it will then decide on whether to apply for FSC certification in its own forests in Finland.
UPM said FSC forest certification would be one of the services it would offer to private growers in the future.
