UPM aims to promote the profitability of forestry in Finland by selling tracts of its forests to private owners.

The company will sell up to 30,000ha of forest and make long-term wood sourcing and forestry services contracts with the buyers.

In so doing, UPM hopes to offer a “news solution” for forest ownership and a way of securing a constant and competitive wood supply.

“Privately-owned forest estates in Finland are fairly small in size,” said Sixten Sunabacka, head of UPM Forest, North Europe.

“By offering large entities for sale UPM seeks to improve the structure of forest ownership in Finland and promote the profitability of forestry.”

UPM owns nearly one million ha of forest in Finland.
