UPM-Kymmene is to transfer its entire sea traffic from Hamina to Kotka follwing port operator Steveco Oy’s decision to concentrate its roll-on roll off (RoRo) operations at the port.

The move will sees UPM’s RoRo, stowable RoRo (StoRo) and ocean container traffic move to the Port of Kotka, which has seen the amount of forest products passing through its docks increase by more than 2.5 million tonnes since 1996.

In January 2006, UPM concentrated its RoRo and StoRo shipping operations at the Port of Hamina but has since “not been able to develop the required operations as expected”.

It said that the decision to move its sea traffic to Kotka was an economic one and that the move would allow it to maintain its pre-shipment system.
