Plywood traders and end-users can calculate the carbon emissions of their UPM plywood products thanks to a new online tool developed by the Finnish firm.

The full logistics chain comprising various transportation methods can be modelled from a UPM plywood mill all the way to a customer’s yard.

Emissions are shown for each weight and volume unit of the freight.

UPM has calculated production-related carbon footprint profiles, as well as the amount of carbon stored in the product, for all its plywood and veneer products.

The map-based Logistics Carbon Calculator could also be used to map other products’ carbon emissions in the future.

UPM is an international partner of the European Commission’s Carbon Footprint of Freight programme to establish a global methodology to calculate carbon footprint and energy consumption for logistics.
